Ashtyn... she's two.

I remember the day she was born like it was yesterday. Everything changed so fast with her pregnancy and she did a somersault within the hour she was born, thinking she would just run out feet first I guess.  She hasn't stopped running yet. We always know when Ashtyn is on the move by the quick thump, thump, thump.thump.thump as she runs everywhere she goes. Her excitement for life is contageous. Sometimes she gets too excited or irritated and does a scream/yell combo especially in the car. We have found that she responds best to singing church Children's songs or other kids songs. She loves singing so much and we are now able to understand a lot of what she is singing. Ryan and I are against our kids playing with cell phones, well using them as play phones, but ours both have MP3 players on our phones and Ashtyn loves to hold it when it is playing music and dance around. She'll see me with my phone and as "mommy, song please?!"
Ashtyn is really starting to talk a lot, she says a few short sentences and we love that she almost always says please and thank you on her own, occasionally she has to be reminded to ask nicely, she has been a good example to her big sister with that one. She gets into moods where she just want to be held.
Over the past few months I worried how she would handle sharing her mommy and daddy with a much needier baby sister. Ashtyn loves her baby Melany, she wants to hold her and give her kisses, sit on mommy's lap while Melany is eating. She is quick to apologize when we point out she has done something to hurt one of her sisters. Time out at our house means laying on the floor tummy down. Under much verbal protest most of the time Ashtyn will lay down on her own when told to do so. For the past months she has been putting her right hand in her pants just enough to touch skin and sucking on her last 3 fingers on the other hand (she has been doing that forever). When she can't get in her pants it is the top of her shirt or her sleeve, any skin under a little bit of clothing. We like it when she chooses something other than her pants :-)
For her birthday today she got to open a gift from mommy and daddy, a baby doll of her very own. She has been very motherly to any doll she finds. She lays them down for naps next to Melany, wraps them in blankets and wants help changing diapers. She sleeps with them and pats the baby doll to sleep. She was very excited and wanted to hold her new baby right then.
To celebrate we went out as a family to dinner at Macayo's, she loves "ditos" and chips and salsa. Ashtyn chose to eat mostly chips and salsa and LOVED every minute of it (we would usually insist on her eating more of something else), I swear that kid would drink salsa if we let her, she was licking it off her fingers as it was. We walked around as a family, all 3 girls on our double stroller. For birthday dessert Ashtyn very much enjoyed her very own chocolate Frosty from Wendy's.
We love our little 2yr old so much, she makes life exciting in our home and adds so much love to our lives. We look forward to watching her grow and learn each day. This year we get to celebrate again with the entire family during a joint party for Ashtyn's birthday and luncheon after Melany's Blessing on Halloween.
Happy Birthday Ashtyn, We love you!
